In the 28 years of AMVETS membership, I have held various positions from Post Commander, District Commander, Northern Area Commander, Department Photographer, Department 1st & 2nd Vice, and current position as Department Commander. I also have had the experience of serving on the AMVETS Service Foundation for 8 years (2008-2016). I was selected as the AMVETS VAVS Volunteer of the Year in 2001 in recognition of all the hours that I volunteered up to that point, and I am still the VAVS representative at the San Francisco VA Hospital. I feel being a member with other Veterans groups benefits AMVETS as each have missions/ideas that may be unique to them but which could be modified and adopted to benefit all.
My 22 years of service in the US Army/Army Reserves, LTC Retired, as an Occupational Therapist has given me a lot of experience in leadership skills, personnel management, conflict management, stress management, life skills training and flexibility to deal with whatever comes our way!
